Small chest
Flexible and Energy-Efficient Storage for Labs
Small chest freezers, often referred to as personal laboratory freezers, are an ideal solution for labs that require a compact and mobile freezer unit. Thanks to their small footprint and optional casters for easy mobility, these freezers can be conveniently moved around the lab as needed.
Their flexible design makes them perfect for laboratories with limited space but high demands for sample accessibility and reliability. Compared to upright models, chest freezers are more energy-efficient, especially when frequently accessed. Because cold air stays inside when the lid is opened, the unit does not need to work as hard to restore the temperature—making it a cost-effective and energy-saving solution for daily lab operations. If your lab requires a compact, efficient, and mobile freezer for frequent sample access, a small chest freezer is a smart investment.

Frequently asked questions
An ULT freezer is a freezer that can reach ultra low temperatures down to -86 °. Nordic lab offers several different models of freezers at ULTs. ULT freezers can be used in many different applications across multiple different industries including for research in laboratories, in molecular gastronomy and for material testing. The small chest freezers are both offered as ULTs and XLTs. ULT freezers can be used in many different applications across multiple different industries including for research in laboratories, in molecular gastronomy and for material testing.
Your choice of freezer depends on the needs of the users and the environment it will be placed in:
Chest Freezers
- Excellent temperature stability and retention
- Typically more energy efficient as it has a lower energy consumption
Upright Freezers
- Simplified sample organization and retrieval
- Convenient and fast access to stored materials
- Space-saving design with a smaller floor footprint
The required freezer temperature depends on the type of materials being stored and the intended application. Different samples and storage requirements may call for temperatures ranging from -20°C to -86°C. For example, general laboratory materials may often be stored at -20°C, while sensitive biological samples can in some applications require storage at -80°C or below.
Nordic lab offers 3 different freezer temperature ranges:
- -25°C to -45°C
- -40°C to -60°C
- -60°C to -86°C
